Which field is the hardest for users to fill out on a signup form? The name, email, password, or phone number field?

If you guessed the password field, you’d be correct. It’s the field that users spend the most time on that has the highest return and abandonment rate (source). In other words, users often commit errors entering their password to the point where correcting them makes them leave the form.

A big culprit of these issues is the confirm password field. This field is the slowest to fill out for these reasons:

  • It requires users to do more work

  • It’s easier to make errors on

  • The errors are harder to correct
